For those of you that are lucky enough to have a fire place (combustion heating), finding firewood  for the winter months, can sometimes  be a chore,  Their is nothing cosier than the warmth  and glow from a natural fire and  its radiance within the confines of the family home, Depending on the quantity required over the winter months, there is an endless supply available from the local tree removal contractor,

 If you here the buzz of a chainsaw, or hear the grinding of a woodchipper, get in your car, follow the sound, find and locate where they are, go over and talk to the workers and ask this question, "Is there any spare wood i can have for my fireplace please". If we are doing a tree trimming or tree removal job at someone house, and you ask me that question, i would tell you  that you could have as much wood as  you like, Tree loppers come by many tons of timber suitable for a fireplaces everyday, If you speak with the tree contractors before the wood is loaded into a truck, im sure that you would be very welcome to take as much as you could carry.

This process needs to happen well before winter comes, so that you can split the wood and leave to dry , depending on the species of timber that you aquire, you may need to let it dry for 12 months,  The sooner you get it, and the sooner you split it, the better the timber will be for burning, If you work  in a cycle and collect your firewood for next year, that should be ample time for it to dry out.
